5KM ROUTE

START

The swim has an in-water start at Ahoy Rentals (23 Ontario Street, Kingston ON). Swimmers and kayakers will enter the water from a boat launch. There is one porta-potty and a city parking lot at the swim start.

LEG 1

The first leg of the swim is a 350-metre swim from Ahoy Rentals to a buoy located west of the swim start. Go around the west side of this buoy then continue to Wolfe Island.

LEG 2

The second leg of the swim is a 2.5 km swim from the buoy to the eastern most tip of Garden Island. The water is most likely to be choppy during this part of the swim.

LEG 3

The third leg of the swim is a 1.5 km swim from Garden Island to the western side of Goose Island.

Note that Goose Island is actually a collection of two small islands and the water surrounding them is very shallow. Stay at least 100 metres from Goose Island or you will hit ground.

SWIMMERS MUST STAY WEST OF GOOSE ISLAND OR THEY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

FINISH

After passing Goose Island, there is 650-metre swim to the finish.

The swim has an on-land finish on Wolfe Island at a small rock/sand beach, 50-metres west of the summer ferry dock.

Note that this part of the the swim takes you near the ferry and so can be dangerous. Kayak(s) will be positioned between the swim finish and the ferry dock. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PASS THESE KAYAKS!!

The land crew will be waiting at the finish to record times. They will also have your end of race bag and water for swimmers and kayakers. In addition, we encourage all swimmers, kayakers, volunteers, and supporters to go to the General Wolfe Inn (200 metre walk) to enjoy brunch and a drink on the patio to celebrate the event. Medals will be given out after all swimmers are finished.
