BAD WEATHER

           CONTINGENCY PLANS

Every arrangement has been made to ensure that a swim will take place, regardless of weather conditions. Two shorter (3km and 1 km) and more sheltered swim routes are shown below. They will be used in the unlikely event of bad weather causing strong wind and waves.

In the very unlikely event of extremely bad weather, the swim will either be delayed to a later start time or cancelled.

Swimmers will be notified by email or text on race day if the crew determines that the route needs to be changed.

If the route is changed, the start location will change. Swimmers and kayakers will meet at the ferry dock in Kingston. Everyone will then travel together to Wolfe Island where swimmers and kayakers will set off from the previously described end point.

ALTERNATE ROUTE (3 KM) - WOLFE ISLAND TO GARDEN ISLAND RETURN SWIM

Swimmers will swim directly from Wolfe Island to the southeast point of Garden Island (~1.25 km). They will then turn left and swim alongside Garden Island to the southwest point (~500 m), before turning left again to return to Wolfe Island (~1.25 km).

ALTERNATE ROUTE (1 KM) - SWIM AROUND GOOSE ISLAND

Swimmers will swim directly from Wolfe Island to the east side of Goose Island (~400 m). They will then swim around Goose Island, which is actually a collection of two small islands (~200 m), before returning to Wolfe Island from the west side of Goose Island (~400 m).
